Portuguese military protest against governmental budget cuts.
Europe Security News.- Billboard of Military Conference in Portugal against budget cuts in military social welfare
Nearly a thousand army officers gathered in a national meeting in a small auditorium of the ISCTE (University of Lisbon) in Lisbon, to discuss and protest against the governmental austerity measures.
According to the association leaders, the austerity measures proposed by the Government will affect the functioning of the dignity and the future of the Portuguese Armed Forces.
Because not all fit in the military audience, the president of the National Association of Sergeants (ANS), Lima Coelho moved the crowd to the outside of the building to communicate to the other participants in the meeting that the three associations (Sergeants, officers of the Armed Forces and Military Court Officials ) will present a “consensus proposal” of active protest against such measures as reducing the holiday payments and Christmas, freezing of military careers, cuts in military social welfare and other rights of the military.
