Radicalization: an Australian social problem with national security effects.
It has been demonstrated that a number of intervention strategies already employed for at-risk youth can also be applied to those vulnerable to radicalization. These strategies use educators, social services, Local and State Government, charities and the private sector to diminish the lure of harmful influences among the vulnerable. The intelligent application of these strategies is a must, as any terror attack by a young person is a tragedy not just for the victims, but also for the perpetrator, their families and the community at large.
